Tax credit confusion

What is the difference between the single person tax credit and the PAYE tax credit? What entitles one to the PAYE tax credit?

Just wondering if someone can put this into plain english for me.THought I had a brain but...

if you are single everyone one gets the single person credit.

to get paye credit-need to be employee and normally paid under class a
if a director only get it if your shares in company under 15%
