Tax claim for professional fees

Can someone please clarify;
I am self-employed for the past couple of years and have been using a professional service to compile tax return. I pay fees of approx 1000 euro for this service but they only claim approx 20% of this as tax deductible when computing the returns. They say that they can only claim for prep. of the Income and Expenditure statement but not for preparation and filing of returns. Is this correct??

As per the previous post, this is totally wrong. If they can make errors like this, you would have to wonder about the quality of the expertise they are providing to you.

Thank you for the replies.Their interpretation of the situation is as follows and I quote "you are not entitled to claim a deduction for any personal expenses i.e. the fees for the preparation and filing of your Income Tax returns", hence the claim for only a small % of the fees charged as I stated above. Any thoughts/clarification would be helpful as I am dealing with one of the most reputable tax organisations in this part of the country.

The accountants in charge of Enron and Worldcom were amongst the most reputable in the world.

Would agree with onlyonpaper's interpretation in the case of basic income tax returns for an individual, but is the prep of income & expense stmt and tax work related to same not all part of legitimate expenses of your business?

Webtax; Thank you for reply. I am only using this organisation because of the business and I dont separate one element of completing these docs from the others.It is one overall cost and they dont split the invoice accordingly. However, I was hoping other people might have similiar experiences. I only stated above about been a reputable company as they have a large practice with a lot of business as well as individual clients and I dont want to "make a fool of myself" by challenging their interpretation if I am clearly wrong
