I thought yesterday's tv clips of a minister suggesting increased charges for ATM use for withdrawal of cash at ATMs as a means of reducing the amount of cash in use was typical of the politicians' approach to solving problems here in Ireland.
What about another solution: do away with the tax charges on the use of credit and charge cards? More people might then obtain cards and use the cards for making payments and therefore have less need for cash in their pockets.
If they are really interested in reducing the security risks due to high levels of cash rather just looking at another means of taking money from people, doing away with the taxes on cards is one obvious solution.
