Hi looking for advice...husband earns approx €56,000 & I earn apox €18000 doing part time work. If I take a career break, will my husband be any better off financially weekly, with me not working? Tax office were no help to me. . We have 4 kids all at secondary/primary school. We will save €65 a week on childcare.

If you are jointly assessed he should already be using up 9000 euro of your transferable rate band. If you have no taxable income in the year he can take your 1650 personal tax credit and you can apply for the home carers a tax credit.

When I was working full time 10yrs ago we had credited split 50/50 we didn’t change that when I went down to a 2 day week. So we get tax back every year. If u think we already using up the €9000 then would be less feasible to take a break
