I have been selected for a tax audit but the dates suggested do not suit me. Am I entitled to request a postponement to more suitable date.
What is normal procedure - is it held at my accountant's premises or in the Revenue??
It is normally at the taxpayers premises.
You can request a postponment but it should only be for a very serious reason. i.e. You can't change it just because it doesn't suit as you had a golf day out planned . Your accountant will be familiar with procedures. Contact them.
You can request that the audit be carried out at your accountant's office so long as your accountant can offer the necessary facilities, i.e. private room with table and chairs.
Billy is correct but if you have a trading premises then the Revenue Auditor will usually still insist on visiting there also to get a clear picture of the business then going to the other site to inspect records.
We had one a year ago.
It was in hubby's office.
Hubby was stressed that he didn't have all his paperwork in order, compared to his colleague...who had everything filed A-Z.
Went fine. It was both a personal audit and a business audit.
There were a few questions about money incoming into a personal account a few years back...that required a bit of head scratching.
Turned out to be a house insurance pay-out and sale of a car.
Found the paper work eventually
