Hi All,
I claimed Maternity Benefit while I was on maternity leave from March to September 07. My employer did not pay me during this period. I returned back to work in Sept.I have received my P60 for last year. Am I due tax back or do I just look for a P21?

As you returned to paid employment that year, you are unlikely to be due any tax refund.

However, if you had unreimbursed medical expenses you can submit a Med1 and get a refund.

when you returned to work, your tax payments must have been very little as you had 7 months unused credits. did you pay the normal rate tax or a reduced one?

It's no harm to ask for a balancing statement anyway and if you are due some money back it will be attached to the statement.

I didnt pay much tax when I went back, I have never asked for a balancing statement before, and didnt know if I should ask for one as I was on Maternity.

There is a chance that you have unused tax credits. Apply for a balancing statement and find out. As has already been said, use the opportunity to claim a tax rebate on your medical expenses for the year
