Hello,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good tax accountant/consultant in Dublin 15?
Very simple tax return - just looking to claim back on incorrect tax returns filed.

Thankyou very much!

Why restrict yourself to Dublin 15?

Very simple tax return - just looking to claim back on incorrect tax returns filed.
Hardly "very simple" if incorrect returns have been originally filed? For a start, the chances of being selected for audit will increase exponentially once Revenue learn that the original returns were incorrect, particularly if more than one return is involved.

Do you mean that original returns were 'incorrect' not 'correct', Ubi?
Only reason I'm asking is that my previous accountants made a big error in my return, which is now being corrected, and will mean I am due a large rebate due to overpayment of tax.
Does that mean I will be more likely to be audited, on the back of my previous accountant's error?

Yes, according to previous Revenue pronouncements.

Corrections to returns will always bring more scrutiny. However there are several views. One that because they had to be corrected the taxpayer could be more likely to be audited in case there are other problems/errors in their system. The other, that they were on the ball now by finding and self-correcting them so the likelihood of other or future errors might be lower so why audit them and waste time. Reading Revenue's mind on this is never easy.

Well that's fair
I really enjoyed paying large fees to someone who mis-calculated my returns by tens of thousands, and then to have an increased risk of an audit as a result, as well as having to pay someone else to do the exact same (but now corrected) returns.
In addition to the interest I have paid on a huge loan to pay off the incorrectly calculated tax liability :(
Thanks for that information Ubi and Graham, appreciate it.

Nicola,

You should ask the person who is revising your returns at the moment to communicate to Revenue that the errors in the returns arose on the part of the accountant and were outside your control. If they don't want to do so for legal or professional reasons, you should ask them to forward to Revenue a letter from yourself explaining the background to the revisions.

Good luck with it.

Any recommendations for tax accountant would be great - simple in that we overdeclared incomings and just want to correct.

Any recommendations if not in Dublin 15 but in nearby area would be great.

Thankyou.
