I would like to ask about TAS books. Is it easy to learn?
I am an accountant and currently use SAGE. I have been offered a job where they have TAS books. The previous accountant left 2 months ago, and there is a backlog of work.
Are TAS books accounts easy enough to pick up ? And what about the backlog? Would it be possible to get through this reasonably.
The people who offered me the job can't work TAS books themselves (small family business) and they know that I don't have TAS books experience, only SAGE experience.
I am ordering a manual from the TAS books suppliers, so that should be some help.
And also what about Thesarius Payroll ? Is it fairly similiar to SAGE micropay?
Tas is really easy to use IMO. The basic version is aimed at small business where the person doing the accounts are not experianced book-keepers. I work in practise and would always recommend Tas to clients with small business who want to move to a computerised system. Most accounting packages work on the same principle so once you have mastered one its generally easy enough to pick up another and the use of drop down menus make it more user friendly.
With regards to the back log it really depends on the volume of transactions each month. But two months isn't that much of a backlog and it shouldn't take too long to catch up.
I don't have any experiance with the payroll packages so can't comment.
We use TAS and we find it easy. The support, which is from Sage, is good as well.
We used Thesaurus payroll up to about 5 years ago and it was brutal. It might have improved since, but I could never understand why it was so popular. But changing payroll systems is very easy at the end of the year. So if you don't like it, get whichever one you are used to
I'm in Admission year of the IATI and Tas Books is part of the syllabus. If you know of a qualified Accounting Technicial they should be able to help you out on it.
TAS Books is easy enough. I've used both TAS Books 2 & 3 and I'd say its basically the same. TAS Books 3 are aimed at small business with lots of transactions. However, there are some weakness on TAS Books. All accounting package are the same. I'd say give it 2 or 3 days and you'll get thorught it. PM me if you need help.
I have been using Thesaraus for about 4 years and find it fairly easy to use. I have had no experience of any other packages so have nothing to compare it to.
You should be able to get a free trial version from www.collsoft.ie to compare it. As I say, it's a while since I used Thesaurus and back then it was brutal, but it was the most popular package by a long way.
