Hi,

Has anyone else used talkXtra to make international phone calls. Was thinking of signing up to them to make calls to Oz for 5 cent a minute. Seems like excellent value, or does anyone know of anything cheaper?

Thanks

I know people who have been happy with the service - it seems to be particularly convenient for students and people who don't have land lines in their own name.

You can top up your account in the post office, rather than pay by direct debit etc., so you don't need a bank account either.

[broken link removed] are even cheaper; local rate to Australian landlines (i.e.1.2c/min on weekends) and 15c/min to mobiles, any time...

Hmmm - take a look at on Telestunt - sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Australian mobiles for 15c per min. It seems to say 33c on the site, or am I missing something (which could be a very high possibility!)

Re: Mea culpa...

Sorry, cullenswood, you're quite right — I was reading too quickly and confused the 1530 prefix (33c/min) with the 1520 (15c/min, as applicable to e.g. Irish mobiles...)

As regards the other funny stuff about Indian-accented 'phone calls from (?) telestunt reps, I'm following those threads with interest..! I haven't had one myself, but then I only occasionally make international calls, and always use the telestunt 1890 prefix*. I've scanned the last few 'phone bills, and they've all been correctly charged. Only downside I can see is that — even if noone answers — you'll still be charged for the 40-50 seconds it takes to establish that there's no answer. So — 1.2c/6.1c down the drain, depending on when you call... :rolleyes

[* I don't use them for Irish mobiles simply because my calls are routed through Euphony, who hike that 15c/min rate up to 23c/min — so I shudder to think what the mark-up is on a 33c/min rate... (I posted a long thread about this a few months back, but damned if I can find it now with that poxy eZboard search facility!). So I buy €10 worth of prepaid 'to-mobile' minutes each month. But they can't 'supersize' the 1890 rate... ]

the "indian problem" seems to be solved , I have posted a reply I received from Telestunt on that thread.
