We have a problem with taking maestro/solo payments from clients in the UK for card not present transactions. They wont go through our processor/merchant account online.
The bank have told us that debit card rules are more stringent in the uk and that customer needs to contact them to activate card not present. I cant imagine how this could be true given that we are unlikely to be the first company that the client has tried to pay with i.e im sure they have booked online flights etc.
