Hi
We just sold a small house in France.
the money remaining was lodged to our french bank account.
Can we just write a cheque to ourselves , drawn on the french bank account , and lodge it to our bank in Ireland.
We paid CGT in France, so nothing dodgy, just want to get our money back to Ireland and close the franch bank account, but unfortunately, we dont speak French..
Help appreciated.
thanks

Everyone is trying to open an overseas bank account and you are trying to close one?

Needs Must...

I know, but we need the money to buy a house in Ireland !!!
(hopefully at a good knock down price of course....)

A Euro cheque will take forever to clear, and there will be hefty charges as well.

Much better to arrange a transfer. You could fax the bank in France with your Irish account details. Make sure to include the IBAN and Swift Codes. You will find these on your statements.
