Table Delivery Question

Hi,

Have an issue that you guys might be able to help me out with. I bought a table in March (paid deposit of 490 1/2 price up front) and was told it would be delivered the end of April. April came and went and no table. Was told by the shop that it should be here at the end of May and again no joy. I called in to the shop and was told the fault was at the manufacturers end. Anyway to cut a long story short it is now September and still no table. I was out of the country for August so didn't get a chance to call to the shop to see what's going on...I called to the shop yesterday (2nd of Sep) and it was closed. There are no details on the shop about why it's closed but all the stock is still in there. I've called the shop but it goes to an answering machine (I left a message asking them to contact me). The website mentions nothing either about why it's closed.

I checked the CRO website to see if there is any details about the business but it says that the status is normal. I really don't know what else i can do to find out what's going on.

After reading what happened with Langans furniture i must say I'm a little worried to say the least. Although I did make sure to pay the deposit using my credit card.

check www.insolvencyjournal.ie it might have details, or post name of store and I can do a little check.

if you paid by credit card, then you may be covered, though this is open to interpretation of rules as the purchase was made months ago.

Thanks for that. Well it looks they are insolvent as they are having ameeting in a couple of weeks. Very upsetting as they kept saying that there was no financial problems. I suppose it goes to show that in business you really can't trust anyone. I'll contact my credit card company and see if i have any comeback.

I contacted the consumer agencey but they said there was not much they could do. We are not living here long just about a year now and we used our visa card from back home and it seems that they do not offer the chargeback facility. Very dissapointed with this not so much with losing the money (although it really hurts) but with the fact that when i asked them was the delay because they were having finacial difficulties I was told everything was fine it was the manufacturer's fault in not delivering on time. I passed the shop yesterday and it was still full of stock I was tempted to break the window and take some of the stuff...only kidding.

In future I don't think I'll ever buy a large purchase in Ireland again I'll wait until I go back to France and drive back with it.

When the liquidator is appointed, you may be able to get your furniture if it has come into stock or is in a warehouse. - Contact the appointed liquidator and see.

As for buying again, we're in unreal times regarding retailers who sell high value goods, but things are settling and there has been a decent lift in retail over the past few weeks. Obviously there will still be more casualities, but once the recession ends (next year imo) retailers in the market will much sounder off from a financial point of view.
