I am going to switch from my current bank and open a new current account with one that doessnt charge account fees....and i am going to get some great pleasure (and hopefully no pain) in doing so...
tis time to be totally disloyal to your bank..partic if it charges you currne t account fees!!
I was thinking of moving from boi to permanent-tsb
It will be very interesting to see boi's response as my family etc have been with them for years...will they often me sweeteners to stay???...shall be interesting to see what happens!!

no only niggling thing about moving is that you have to pay this damn atm and laser stamp duty (€20) again if you move! this rule will only be scrapped in from 2006.
maybe permanent tsb will pay it for me...i will ask and post back what both banks reactions will be.
I moved from BOI recently after 15 years and they didn't give a damn even though I told them I'd be taking 3 accounts with me. Bit of a pain going through the new account process but it makes no sense whatsoever to pay them quarterly fees while NIB charge nothing. More people should do this, screw them, money is better in your pockets, look at the profits they announce every year!
Account switching is easier now so we were about to do same - hubbies own current a/c, joint current a/c & mortgage all with AIB.
Were going to move both current a/c's to permanent TSB.
Hubbie wrote letter to AIB stating same and we got a call the following day to say that they would give us free banking on the joint current a/c for 18 months and request that same be done for hubbies own a/c (its a different branch, so it has to be requested there).
If we don't get joy on his a/c we'll move that anyway but glad to see AIB made an effort......
I'm moving too! Opened my account with NIB this week so, intend cancelling BOI one as soon as i get my card. I'm not interested in listening to what BOI have to offer anymore. They just irritate me so much. I'm totally p***ed off with getting annoying phone calls at home from a Customer Services Rep to see if she can help me in anyway. It's total rubbish. We went to them last year to try & get out of a partly fixed rate mortgage. We took 30% of ours fixed 4.5 years ago. They are going to charge us over €4,000 to get out of it. When we met with them we were more of less told it was stupid to take out any fixed as nobody stays in their first home but funny, nobody mentioned this when we were taking it out! I also went to cancel my credit card with them this week & got this great 2 page letter wanting me to ring them & telling me how great they are! They don't make it easy to get away but I'm going anyway! I think BOI spend way too much telling us how great they are instead of actually putting it into practice.
I'm about to switch too to NIB lock, stock and barrel after 25yrs with BOI.
However, slightly dissappointed at this stage in that my initial letter to NIB (Clonmel branch) remains unanswered since 8/2/05.
Requesting tracker mortgage of 2.79% to be applied to the offset mortgage product which I may not get as I think they are offering the 2.79% only on ordinary mortgages. I'm only switching 27k but will be commencing an extension approx 100k which I told them about.
Anyone else find them slow in responding to letters.
Anyone being given the 2.79% rate on the offset product by fighting for it.
Martini, regarding NIB, I have dealt with them by phone, the galway branch, and have found them great.
I was going to go for the Offset too but the rate quoted was 3.19, my mortgage is 60% less than the value of the house so I can avail of the tracker rate of 2.79. I prefer the tracker idea as its guaranteed to be .79 over the ECB rate for the term of the mortgage. I intend opening a Northern rock deposit account which makes avg 3%, and thereby benefit from good interest rates.
I recently switched to NIB but when we enquired about switching our mortgage we were told we couldn't avail of the tracker rate as the mortgage has to be at least €100,000 & our was only €90,000.
