Swapping Irl driving licence for a UK one

I'm moving to the UK for a job and the company wants me to have a UK driving licence...I'm moving to stay with a friend till i get my own place sorted out...I start on the 1st of march and am leaving this week...can anyone advise me on doing this?...I was told it should be no prob...but if anyone has done this could you advise me?

If you are staying in the UK for more than 12 months (from date of first entry) you need to exchange your Irish licence for a UK licence. You can apply on form D1 which is obtainable at any post office.

It is easy to do. However, they do require your passport and it can take a few weeks at worst. So, if you apply by post, you will have no photo ID to travel home, or you can go in person to the DVLA office and just let them view your passport in person, and take it home with you.
Just a warning, the DVLA is a bureaucracy that specialises in sapping the soul!
