My boyfriend recently bought a 97 suzuki vitara from his aunt for 5000 euro. Last week the gearbox was completely gone and he had to pay 120 for a new one. last night while driving down the motorway the car overheated so he pulled it in and put water in it. Then he noticed the water was leaking straight back out and later concluded the head gasket is gone, now i would let this go but the car is still in his aunts name and we were given her son's (a mechanic) word that the car was in perfect condition.
Because the car is not in my boyfriends name yet and i was a private sale does he have any claim or rights to getting his money back or at least havin the car paid to be fixed?

It would be great if you could get back to me, thanks

also anyone know how much it would cost to be fixed?

Re: is it worth the hassle?

Probably not much use to you now, but - Never buy a car off of a relative.

yeah prob nothing, its a tricky one.. mayve she's be willing to compensate your boyfriend??

a gearbox for 120? i doubt it was a big problem.
if you can see water leaking out it's likely just a hose is perished or cracked... not a big problem.

It's 10 years old. Something is bound to go wrong.

But I will say that 5000 sounds very steep.
