Suspended timber floors - insulation

I am planning to sand and varnish the original t&g floorboards throughout the ground floor of my house. The floor is a suspended timber type laid on joists with a space underneath of about 3 ft. Neighbours who have done this complain of draughts coming up through the floorboards, so I would like to insulate under the floorboards before sanding and varnishing to eliminate this problem. Ideally I would like to avoid having to lift all the floorboards, as they are 60+ years old and I would like to avoid damaging them as much as possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to contractors / firms I could get to insulate underneath the floorboards? I have read the existing threads here and have searched google etc. but no insulation contractors discuss retro-insulating suspended floors on their websites.

I have no interest in doing it myself .

Thanks!

Thanks sydthebeat. Checked out that thread already. I really don't have any inclination to attempt it myself - I have developed a healthy loathing of all things DIY related over the last couple of years!

Ideally I'd like a company to come in and do it for me with the minimum of hassle.

Knauf insulation's website has a range of solutions

Hi Sherman, I came across this old post and was wondering if you got a good contractor to carry out your under floor insulation....a long time ago I know!

Hi Applewood. I recently undertook this process myself. Really easy to do yourself if you dont mind getting a bit dusty.

Hardest part is finding an area of the floor to use as access to get underneath but luckily for me I had central heating installed a few years ago and the plumber had already done this for me so the access was there.

Easiest thing to use is insulation boards on the underside of the floorboards. This allows for the movement of air underneath the suspended floor and it significantly reduces draught coming up through the floorboards.

If you would like a few more details of how I did it (not saying in any way that its the best but it worked for me an I was on a very tight budget) let me know
