Can anyone recommend a good surveyor for the south Dublin area?

I've used Michael O'Malley in the past but he has yet to return my call and I'm in a bit of a hurry at this stage.

Any recommednations welcome.

I spoke to Thorntons who wanted to charge me €450 plus VAT (€544.50!!) to do the survey.

I spoke to Michael O'Malley of O'Malley Surveys (01) 8392835. He completed an excellent and thourough survey for €250 plus VAT and did the survey and e-mailed me the report the next day.

I'm not affiliated with him in any way - just a punter.

Big differnece in price for the same job!

Im Really suprised that you might think you are getting a better deal because the price is less, There are lots of surveyors and house inspectors out there who provide many different services. I don't agree that your getting the same report for less money but a cut down version of the report. I have used homepro on a few occasions for surveying houses and completing snag lists. Brian is the guy whom i operate with 0870516760. www.homepro.ie He likes you to be present and takes you around the property explaing issues and advising what part of the house need attention, He offered constant safety tips and advice and discussed future expansion possibilities it was really wortwhile paying the extra cost. For a snag list it was fantastic, I had plenty of snag lists in the past and the guys that charge less seem to walk into each room do a scan take notes and move into the next room and repeat. But when you pay more you get more, This guy walks the rooms about 10 times checking different items each time he goes in.He spends somewhere between 21/2 - 3/12 hrs in the house, he beleives that it is his job to protect me from any future costs and he stressed to me , Why should i pay hundreds of thousands of pounds for a new house that has a scratched door? or a damaged skirting board or something. It makes sense to have an exaustive inspection. But it does not come cheap and thats our problem we look at prices too often. when we should be asking what we gonna get for that?
If you had of asked Im sure that thorntans would have gave you a different response that o malleys.
