Surveyor failed to pick up on water damage to hall ceiling

Bought my house last May and had a survey done earlier that month. I did notice some light staining on the hall ceiling but never associated it with water. The surveyor did not pick it up either in his report. Last August water from the shower leaked into the hall and I immediately covered the back of the bath in plastic to stop further damage. It's taken me til now to get the situation sorted. Anyway, my insurers won't cover it - but have offered €200 to repair paintwork to hall ceiling which I've refused.
What I would like to know is whether it's worth going back to the surveyor or have I left it too late? He could easily say the damage happened in the 10 months I've been in the house?
Any advice gratefully received.
 
Insurance companies always say no first - that how they make their money.
Keep pressure on them, and make sure you have photos of the incident.
Read your policy and understand where you stand.
Hire a professional insurance negociater if necessary...

firstly examine his report,see what sort of insurance cover he has,should be down as professional indemnity,
secondly commence some sort of dialogue with both surveyor and insurance company,offer to pay would seem to indicate some acceptance of the validity of your claim
