Survey Issue

Just had a survey done on a property which turned up an issue with the upper floor, which is an attic conversion from a single-story to a two-story. Turns out the upper floor wasn't strengthened, and that the first floor can be used as bedrooms only if there's nothing of any substantial weight in the rooms. It should be fine otherwise, although it might cause issues obviously if selling on again.

The seller never mentioned the conversion in the ads in the first place (it had to be enquired about). Are there building regs it should conform to? And in any case, is this enough of an issue to warrant either i) a revision of the price agreed or ii) pulling out from the sale?

No ifs buts or maybes-I would be gone.

"arra shure twill be fine as long as ye dont put a bed or wardrobe in it...otherwise..."

Thats Craggy Island dialogue.

Its not fit for purpose, just be glad you got a survey done.

The day you buy is the day you sell.

Personally, I would run a mile.
The house is sub-standard, its as simple as that.

Given the number of houses for sale at the moment, a house with a serious issue like that is worth a lot less than a properly built one. I wouldn't even hazard a guess of what percentage discount in the price that you should ask for, if you insist on going ahead with the purchase.
