Supermarkets pricing

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the supermarkets in the republic have increased their prices generally within the last few weeks. I have noticed in my local supervalu and tescos that a bottle of coke priced at 1.99 last week is now 2.18 and some wastebin bags were 1.79 are now 1.99.
That seems to a 10% increase.
How is it possible when we are being told about low inflation, increase of euro value against sterling(which should make imports cheaper?)
This is just going to force more people to shop in the north.

Should they not be decreasing prices to attract customers?

Noticed that Coca Cola 2L products are now €2.09 in my local Dunnes and Supervalu. Was in Newry last week and Sainsbury's were selling 3x2L bottles of Coke for £3.

Go figure...

1L of milk was €1.29 before Xmas in the Spar near work. This morning it was priced €1.39 on the shelf but they still charged €1.29 at the till. I suspect that they have simply not updated their system and the price increase will come through at the till anon. I should really just buy 2L @ €1.65 (unless that has changed too?) in Lidl/Aldi/Dunnes/Tesco to be honest...

1L of orange juice was €0.85 in Lidl, Aldi and Tesco before Xmas. They are all charging €0.99 now.

I have never understood the need to buy these things certainly for domestic use. I use old plastic bags, containers, bread bags even the small free plastic bags that you get in the veggie area of supermarkets. I am sure I am saving a fortune.

Those old plastic bags now cost 22c a pop, so it probably is more economical to buy a roll of bags instead!

Another reason to shop in Sainsbury's perhaps - plastic bags are still free up north!! :)

Not for much longer, though - they're already trying to encourage people to bring their own shopping bags by stashing the carrier bags under the counter. They are still available for free, but you need to ask for them.

Even Lidl have increased certain prices... Items like Yogurt, orange juice, soups etc and few veggies/fruits too...

Strange, from all the ads in the newspapers I thought the Irish supermarkets were reducing prices. Or am i being too cynical by thinking that they cut prices on some products and put them up on others to compensate????
