Superfluous costs surrounding home repossession

I am aware of a recent home repossession in a working class suburb of Dublin. A no frills property in dire need of refurbishment.

The family are now in rented accommodation due to a shortage of council properties. The cost to the TAX payer in the region of €800.00 per month.

The family had subsequently been paying a mortgage repayment of €800.00 to a TAX payer funded bank but this payment was below interest only.

The TAX payer now has to pick up the costs of the repossession and the rented accommodation, which is situated in a more affluent suburb.

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. So, I take it that the more repossessions the more the TAX payer needs to pay.

Did they investigate the mortgage to rent scheme? Were they in MARP? I presume they are on SW, so the taxpayer was paying the 800 regardless.

They must have been in big arrears and not engaging for the lender to repossess.
