Sunday Newspaper prices

Bought Ireland on Sunday today. Price E2.00 or 1.00 Stg.

Also bought Sunday Tribune E2.10 and 1.60 stg., Sunday Business Post E2.10 and 1.60 stg., SundayTimes E2.10 no Stg price shown., News of the World E1.20 no Stg price shown.

Is Ireland on Sunday taking us all for mugs charging us that price. I must admit that I started to buy it for the freebies that it gave away and then got into the habit of buying it every week (free Art Garfunkle cd this week).

Today was the first time in years I bought the News of the World and it has gone way downhill since I last bought it (free Clockwise DVD was the sole reason for the purchase).

I would not be too surprised if the UK price of the Sunday Times and the News of the World is similar to that charged by Ireland on Sunday, but at least they are not rubbing our noses in it by telling us what they are charging elsewhere.

Not all of us. Just those mugs who think it's too dear or the €/GB£ price differential is too high but buy it anyway.

I guess the freebies may not be as free as you thought so?

I stopped buying the Sunday newspapers some time ago mainly because I was still reading them the following Wednesday. I have also cut back on my week day newspapers as I find the news is out of date by the time it gets in to print. I find I don't miss them at all. I still like the property times though.

And ironically this is the same paper that regularly runs articles comparing prices in the North with those in the Republic. Funnily enough they never do include themselves or reply to emails questioning their price difference...........

I usually buy the Sunday Times for about €2 and its a great read(well in my opinon anyway)
My wife bought the Sunday Independent this week and can I just say that this paper is simply aload of trash! This paper cannot be called a broadsheet anymore, it seems to have the reporting skills of The Sun. I cringed when I say that they have over 1million readers - dear god, how do people subject themselves to this. First it was the Sunday World turning into a rag and now the Independent follows suit.

Anyone care to recommend a decent paper if the Sunday Times is not in stock when I get there. Tribune, Business Post? as they would be my next options.

The price difference isn't that all that big is it, 1 pound = 1.46 euro + vat @ 13.5% = 1.65 euro. Still about 17% cheaper in NI but they've got to price it at what the local market will accept.

The Tribune at 1.60 sterling would cost, using just the conversion rate + vat, 2.64 euro here, so we're getting a bargain at 2.10. (0% vat rate on newspaper in the UK, 13.5% here)

Possibly people sometimes still do a rough Irish punt to to sterling conversions in their heads when looking at UK prices.

Choice of Sunday papers usu depends on your political worldview-We usu get the Tribune and The Times to cover both sides of the republican divide!
Used to read the SIndo but its standards have dropped appalingly over the last 5-10 years-I stopped getting the Sindo in the late 90's, as it was getting repetitive in its op-ed stance on everything-the Liam Lawlor debacle reinforced my attitude towards the Sindo.

Do those newspapers have some bias for one side over the other? I've never noticed to be honest. The SBPost is another matter altogether though!
