Sun holiday in January

We are planning a sun holiday in January, for 1 or two weeks with three kids under 4 years. It will be our first foreign holiday since the kids were born.

Our budget it about 3-5K, anywhere within 4 hours flying, low 20s temperature-wise, ideally beside a beach (the kids are obsessed with sandcastle building!)

I have been googling for places in spain/canaries but there is such a vast array of choice that its really difficult to make a decision. Also there is limited info on whether places are suitable for small kids (they are too young for most kids clubs and anyway it seems kids clubs are not available out of school holiday times).

For a hotel we need either two interconnecting rooms (does such a thing exist?) or a large room with three beds and room for a cot. Self catering is also a possibility, small villa with a pool?

Really appreciate any recommendations. Its been so long since I've been away on a holiday (although with 3 small kids, it not so much a holiday as a change of scenery with warmer weather!)

A beachfront bungalow in Sands Beach in Lanzarote is good for young children. The beach is right outside your door but it is on a safe shallow lagoon rather than the sea. They have one, two and three beds.

Thanks, I checked it online just now and it looks great. Not sure they have rooms available for our dates. Just looking around different booking sites. Can I ask did you book direct with the hotel or via booking.com or similar website?

I checked tripadvisor and there was one report from someone saying that there was a terrible smell at the beach apartments Aug 2013. Can I ask when you stayed there and was there a smell?

You'll do well to get the low 20's temperature wise in Lanzarote in January or February !

We go every January with 4 children. We have booked through discount websites and through the hotel. I think we even booked a package one year because it worked out good. I think the least expensive is usually phoning the hotel.

Never had a smell in the bungalow/apartment and usually get warm sunny weather.

Thanks so much, really appreciate the recommendation. Super excited! Going to work all over Christmas to get the time off early January. Really want this holiday to be a good one for all of us. We are so wrecked from working and having 3 small kids and no holiday in almost 4 years.

Hi
We have had great experiences with the Princess Yaiza suitehotel Lanzarote. Very short drive from the airport, beside a sandy beach. It specialises in families. There are nice family apartments and a playground right next to the hotel. It is quite pricey but has great facilities for families with children. I would not advise a villa with pool unless you want to be on lifeguard duty for every single minute of your stay, not very relaxing.
