A warning about prebooking faccommodation -and then finding your flight's canclled.......

Everyone will have noticed how cheap most flights on EI/FR are this Summer. Hundreds of flights to much of Europe at (before taxes) for under 100euros return. Amazing prices ! Yet there are posts from people asking whether to hang on in case they get even cheaper, (or perhaps they expect the airline/tour operator to pay them to fly)

Anyway, the result of people holding back is this-

Ryanair and Aer Lingus -as well as other airlines -will now cancel flights. They will either cancel whole destinations or greatly reduce the number of flights to a destination. Or both. between now and May there will be many cancellations (unless there is a sudden upsurge in bookings -doubtful)

(The same will -already has happened - to tour operators. Many flights have already been cancelled. .e.g Budget have stopped flying to turkey and Egypt, Sunway to Cyprus etc Panorma to Fuerteventura, etc etc)

So, if you have booked a flight to XYZ on say the 3rd June, return 10th - and have booked accommodation seperately for that period, don't be surprised if the flight is cancelled or the date changed.

The cancellations will start happening soon and will affect both airlines,so it's best to ensure that you have flexibility on your accommodation/ car/ yacht etc booking. Can you get you switch accommodation dates? Get a refund ?

Ryanair is more sensible than EI so they'll cancel first. EI will dither and cancel later on - or fly with empty planes and go deeper into debt....

Ryanair have already announced their latest list of cancellations and schedule cutbacks from Dublin.

unlikely to be short term cancelations to flights to this extreme. there are always small operational needs to change flight times etc, but whole cancellations unlikely.

for sure routes will be axed, frequencies reduces, but this will emerge as part of the next schedule, and these seats will not have been released yet. so chill

Seats on routes and dates for this Summer which have been for sale for several months have (as per the site gipiman above has indicated) been suddenly cancelled today by Ryanair.
That includes four destinations plus less flights to many other destinations.

o'leary is blaming the airport/departure taxes but it's obvious that people just ain't willing to commit for this summer.

I was wrong about EI though. I hadn't realised it but during the last week they have cancelled many Summer flights though,as yet, not complete routes. That is, instead of a daily flight to XYZ they've reduced to three-per-week.

Having failed to fill their seats during the recent sale and facing even bigger losses for the year ahead than those recently announced, EI will keep cancelling Summer flights. Or go broke.

But they never announced their cancellations of Gothenburg, Salzburg and Bremen a few weeks back.
