Hi!
I am returning to Ireland after 6 months in australia and would like to spend 3 nights in Bangkok. I believe 4 and 5 star hotels are quite reaonable there and wonder if somebody could recommend one. Convenient location would be important. I also hope to spend 4 days elewhere in Thailand, within a few hours drive if possible. Any suggestions on where to go and places to stay? Nightlife not a huge issue. Things to see etc more important.
Mnay thanks

Rembrandt Hotel. Think the address was somrthing like Summkivit or similar. Close to skytrain which is very quick and cheap to get around. Stayed there for a few nights before and couldn't fault it. Has a great indian resteraunt on the 26th floor ( part of the floor extends over the edge and is glass - i'm scared of heights but the food and service was worth it)

Most of the big names are in Bangkok. Marriott are usually good and yes anywhere near the Skytrain means you can get around easily. Make sure you go to Chatachuk Markets (you can get their on the sky train). Its an amazing market...but bring a compass, you could easily get lost there!!!

Thanks lauren for market suggestion. Anywhere else you would recommend for shopping?

Cowsan Road is where a lot of the backpackers stay and there are lots of touristy shops there...Patpong night market is ok too altough I think its gone downhill in recent years. Patpong is the red light district so be warned that guys/girls/and everyone in between will try to lure you into clubs etc. If you are into electronics theres a mall that specialises in these goods. The name of it escapes me right now..I'll probably think of it later..But if you ask at the hotel they will know..

If you want to be near the Khao San Road, which as mentioned is a lively location, we found the Buddy Lodge to be a fantastic hotel. High quality rooms at decent rates. Nice rooftop pool as well.

Any friends we have recommended it to have enjoyed it.

Stayed at the Westin Hotel on Sukhumvit Rd last 2 years for 3 nights both times! beautiful place! about €50 per person per night including brekkie in jUly and August.

Rembrandt is good (as is the Indian rest. although it has Irish prices) - stayed there in 2005 and found it excellent. However, we also stayed in the Novotel at Siam Square in 2005 and found it better than the Rembrant - mainly because we thought the location was better than the Rembrant. Skytrain is near both, but the Skytrain only goes so far/certain places. We ended up using taxis and tuctucs as much as the sky train - they are very cheap also.

Try [broken link removed] - it is good for both booking and reviews.

Stayed in the Shangri-La when honeymooning there in 2000, was a really nice hotel. At the time it was very reasonable given the quality (5 star) and service, the food was a bit expensive but there were also nice restaurants nearby. It is on the river, a river room view comes with nice views over Bangkok. Also easy access to some of the main temples (Wat-po and the Grand Palace) and otehr attractions. The Skytrain (Bangkok's eleveted metro) station is also nearby.

I stayed in the Radisson 2yrs ago & it was fabulous. I booked it on the net & it cost me €110 for 3nts B & B in absolute luxury. It's not central but taxis are so cheap I didn't find it a problem. Nearly sure I booked it through www.hoteltravel.com.
I also booked a tour to see the Temples & a trip to the Bridge on the River Kwai. This I really enjoyed as it lets you see some of the countryside as well as a trip on the river & death railway. I found it fascinating.....

It's all so reasonable. They tell me I should go to the islands next time. I wonder if Phi Phi is back to it's former glory, because it was incredible by all accounts. Also Phuket & Koh Samui. Chiang Mai is also an interesting place. You'll be spoiled for choice.
Have a great trip

thanks huys. In singapore tonight...albert court. Wouldn.t recommend it!
Have booked the rembrabdt so we'll see how that goes.
