Stupid ESB

I moved out of a house about 2 years ago and closed my ESB account and gave them a forwarding address.

Over the period of a year it seems my account was still open and ran up a bill of over 300 euro. I didnt spot this as it was coming out in 10s and 20s up until the last month where about 200 came out.

So i rang the ESB and told them to cancel the account AGAIN. Which they did this time and told them to send any reimbursement to a new forwarding address. Additional to this, the account was originally open by my friend so the account is in the name of "mr.joe bloggs, simon"...me being simon. So when i finally got the reimbursement it was sent to the old forwarding address made payable to mr.joe bloggs, simon. So i cant cash this as only my first name is on the draft! I rang up and told them i couldnt cash it and they have sent out 2 more of the exact same since.

A couple of years and phone calls later and this is still going on. I recently recieved a offer of goodwill of €40 sent to the old address AGAIN and payable to mr.joe bloggs, simon AGAIN!!

Is there anything i can do here? everytime i ring im dealing with someone new and seem to be getting no where fast!! i cant believe how stupid these people appear to be!!!

Ask for the name of someone in the accounts department, and then direct a letter (eg Urgent FAO Jane Doe) to that person explaining the situation and what you need done. Give as much detail as possible, and be polite. Try to keep any correspondance directed to a particular inidividual where possible, as this helps to ensure that someone will take ownership of the situation. At least this is what I do when trying to penetrate through layers of beaurocracy.

Ah dear. I've been fighting with them today and feel your pain. If all else fails, go to Elcom (think they're now called Commission for Energy Regulation) . They're the Electricty regulator people. www.cer.ie. They're very helpful.

Hope you get sorted soon.

Don't post a general heading such as "help !" or "Mortgage query".
If you post a heading such as "Mortgage for separated couple", it will get a better response and will be much easier to find if you need to go back to look for it.

If you send them to me I'll get my brother Joe to cash them for you

Hi Daves,

I'm going through a similar dispute with ESB at the moment, luckily the landlady has the email where she asked ESB to transfer the bill to another name when I moved out and the subsequent 'received' confirmation email from ESB (The ESB were originally saying that they had not received anything of the sort)

I was wondering how long it took you to get the refund from ESB?

In regards to your problem, perhaps the next time you contact ESB ask for a manager and get their name and direct line so you don't have to keep explaining the situation. (This is what I've done in my current complaint with ESB, a lot less stressful.) Also mention that it's been several years and that you are refering the matter to Elcom.

Good luck!
