structural guarantee

When I bought my house 4 years ago, the brochure said it was covered by a structural guarantee scheme. I asked my solicitor about this and he said there was only 1 surveyor for this scheme in the west of ireland. He said to be sure I was happy with the construction before I moved in. Does anyone know anything about this scheme? I have no documentation on it.

Re: strucural guarantee

You mean Homebond? If so then there should be a HB47 certificate in with the deeds of the property. Bear in mind that Homebond only covers serious structural flaws in the first 10 years after being built which the builder will not put right. To be honest I wouldn't depend on it too much if I was you. Better to get a good detailed structural survey and snagging (for a new property) done before buying so that any problems are identified and ideally fixed before closing.
