Hi
I had that problem when lighting a fire in a room I hardly use over the winter. It would appear that the briquettes I used were damp and I did not light a GOOD hot fire, more or less, just let is smoulder and the smell was hanging around for about a week. I used febreeze on the furniture and curtains, aired the room and I will light a GOOD hot fire although it seems to be completley gone now. I also stuffed some newspaper at the entrance to the chimney to stop the rain splattering on my timber floor during the summer - but don't forget to remove it before using fireplace again!!!
