Hi this is my first posting hope I do it properly!! Myself and my other half were meant to be going to Madrid next thursday but now there's going to be a strike.. no flights. We have travel insurance just wondering what we'll be covered for, our hotel is already paid for in full, could we be compensated for this? This was to be our first holiday abroad, very upset

There are suggestions/threats but I don't think a strike has been actually confirmed anyway - has it?

If so, do you know where and exactly what it will affect?

Hi yes its a confirmed strike affecting Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports. There will be a meeting on monday to try and resolve it. It's meant to affect 450 flights!

As Clubman says, check your terms & conditions. Generally however, industrial action is not covered by travel insurance. Wouldn't panic yet. They will probably sort something out

Was talking to our insurance company we have two options

1. we can get a rescheduled flight they will compensate us for waiting around food ect or

2. we can not go and claim for " holiday abandonment" up to €5000

Fingers crossed strike won't go ahead.

It's a while away yet - a lot can happen in the meantime.

BTW, if it escalates we could well be affected on a return flight on Sunday week too!

And I hear that Aer Lingus cabin staff are balloting on strike action too, which could ground their aircraft within 2-3 weeks....chaos reigns!

Just an update for those travelling with Aer Lingus this week.

For passengers travelling from tomorrow till Feb 29th, Aer Lingus are allowing changes to bookings at no cost.
