strange noise

Hi, My car has just started to make a strange kind of tapping noise. I dont really want to take it to a dealer to have a look, as I've been stung by them in the past. Does anyone know of somewhere in the D12/D22 area I can take it in for them to just take a look. Mates have said it sounds like the exhaust may be loose... any help much appreciated.

Is the noise more prominent when the engine turns as you start?
If it is the exhaust, sometimes you find the initial 'shudder' shakes it more and you can hear it rattle more.

Could also be bushings...

no, it actually doesn't sound on starting, tends to be noisier when I am slowing down through the gearbox.. although it has started to get worse over the last couple of days.

It may be a hole in the exhaust. If so it will get bigger.

Took my car to a local mechanic yesterday.. Cat converter has broken and is rattling around inside the back box... 1200 + labour to get it sorted
