strange noise from toilet

we have a toilet in our utility room and after you flush it and as the cistern begins to fill it makes a funny noise - almost like a trumpet. It seems to be some kind of water pressure issue as the water pipe feeding the cistern was vibrating slightly during filling. any ideas what might be causing this? It's only been happening recently.

Water hammer usually caused by the vibration of the rubber washer in the float arm which can make an awful sound.Turn off water and replace washer, or get a plumber or diyer to fix it.

Similar situation and tried to fix it myself. Ended up with a flooded toilet and an irate wife!!! Called the plumber who fixed it in 5 mins and also discovered that our water pressure initially caused the problem. We have an external pump and he found that it was on the point of breaking down due to high pressure. I'd advise calling a plumber, unless your'e a dab hand at this type of repair!
