Stove positioning for optimum performance?

Recently brought a Nestor Martin Stove and the salesman said that it was best to have the stove 6 inches away from the wall to allow heat to be circulated effectively. On research of this online i have found no mention of this.

Does anyone have experience on this or just left their stove flat to the wall?

Many Thanks

If the wall is slabbed behind it the heat from the stove will crack the slab at the joint . I left one a foot out from a slabbed wall & it still cracked the slab.

Have a Nestor Martin stove which is 3" from a granite slab at back wall. It cracked it also. Heat will travel from flue up along wall.
