Storing clothes in the attic

Hi,

I've recently insultated (floor insulation) & floored my attic. Just wondering if it ok to store clothes up there over the winter when it will get pretty cold up there? I was thinking up putting up a clothes rail and hanging each item in a plastic covering (as per dry-cleaners type).

Thanks, F.

It might be better seal them in bags. You can get vacuum sealables bags for clothes in most of the DIY stores. They will keep them free of condensation, insects, etc.

+1 for Leo's suggestion. My better half uses vacuum sealable bags. It's amazing how much you can get in to them. She uses them for everything from winter duvets to summer tshirts.

Thanks for that. I'd ideally like to store larger items such as overcoats,, suits and my wife's dresses etc, so vacuum bags not an options. Am thinking of putting each item in a suit bag...probably cover in paper also..

We have done the same for several years and never had a problem.

I would just advise you store them with waterproof covering and not just suit bags.
When we insulated and floored our attic we got a lot of condensation up there during last winter's extreme cold, even with ventilation. We've learnt from that and everything up there is well wrapped up in plastic now.
