Need to get a fireplace and considering getting somebody to build one from stone, one to mantle height with a wooden beam. Anybody know how much this would cost appox. (how long is a piece of string I know but rough estimate!)
Thanks!

Hi,

I am a stonemason, your query is hard to put a price on. It really depends on the type of stone and how much detail and preparation is involved. Getting a few quotes from stonemasons in your area will give you a good idea of price and work involved.

Tom.

based in meath, used a guy we know and he cost us 300 euro to build fireplace. Founds beam in salvage yard and got it restored 220 in total.
Had to pay for materials too ie cement, stone, bricks.

You need to call a few local stone masons for fee queries.

Well the timber beam across our mantle cost €600 restored from salvage yard, fabulous curves and grain, got the brick work done to the roof, just reclaimed red brick but it has creams, blacks, reds, yellows in it. Sounds dodge but really nice, got that at a salvage yard for €250, the work think it cost €400 for the man to do. Our brickie is kind of a stonemason also so he did it for us for that price. Great job.
