Does anyone know of any good websites out there for trading stocks and shares but also allows you to setup a demo or dummy account for a while before you are ready to go live with real cash??

The easiest and quickest way is to have a gmail account and use
http://finance.google.com/finance

You can enter in what stocks you buy , at what price and the amount.

For spreadbetting, paddypower demo is good.

Yahoo! allows you to do the same thing with the ability to create portfolios. finance.yahoo.com

A pen and paper works equally as well, and is often the best way, as you record your thoughts and reasonings on a trade, and then revisit it later to see if you made the right call at that time.

If you set up a Keytrade account (to trade) you can set up virtual portfolio before you are ready to put down your cash.

I remember my first order, that was an "exciting" moment! However the biggest preparation you can do is to settle on your approach before you put any money down and stick to it. That's something you cannot practice.
