Hi all,

I wonder if anyone is able to pass any comments on the best (cheapest) way to transfer 35,000 sterling from a UK Bank to the Permanent TSB in Eire. These funds are being used to purchase a property.

i would say go to the buttercrane in newry they do the best rates and business people always use the bureau de change there

I've used www.xe.com in the past to transfer large amounts of $ to euros. After some research I concluded this was the cheapest option for me. Takes a while to set up account, due to security and anti-laundering issues, but definately worth it as I saved thousands versus the traditional interbank fx route. There are a number of these currency trading sites; google "fx" and check them out.

I have used Caxton FX to transfer funds for the exact same reason. You can set yourself up as a customer by fax. You would need to fax a copy of your passport and a utility bill but all that information is given on their site, can't remember offhand the full website address but it should go something like www.caxtonfx.co.uk, do a search if unsuccessful. Once you are registered, you can ring them to spotcheck the rate and if you feel it is to your advantage you can actually book that rate 4 days in advance. You then transfer the funds to their account and they will transfer them onto the beneficiarys account. There are no charges at all. This commercial rate will be higher than the banks and also you don't pay a transfer fee.

Best of luck!
