Any help would be greatly appreciated. We just received a letter from our local county council demanding payment of "financial contributions for planning permission" from 10 years ago. With all the money forked out when building your own home we thought we had paid this and considering we didn't hear anything about it for 10 long years never thought of it again. Transpires we didn't and now we don't have a blue razoo to our names. Is there a statute of limitations to council taxes? During the boom years we might have had a chance of handing over €6,500 but no hope in hell now, and especially not by January (which is when they stated). 10yrs is a long time to not hear anything and then have it demanded no? Do we have any recourse?
