Statisticians in the CSO are based in cork and dublin mainly..does any1 know of decentralisation outside these areas?

No that is where the CSO is based!!

Also the grade of Statistician is unique to CSO, so unless there is movement by unions on transfers between admin Civil Servants and technical/professional grades under the Decentralisation CAF, a Statistician will be unable to transfer to another decentralising government Department.

Not totally true. Equivalent grades can transfer but only after about 4 other criteria throw up no candidate. So you might be incredibly lucky and get it, but doubtful.
Stat grade is AP equivalent even though the pay scale actually ranges from AO to AP.
