My husband will be 66 years old in June 2014. he is self employed and has been paying class S Contributions since 1989 I presume he will be entitled to the full State pension. I receive a small amount of Disability allowance because of my husbands earnings. I am under 66 years of age and receive this small amount of Disability Allowance because of my husbands earnings. (means tested) I would like to ask (1) If my husband continues to work after he receives his pension will he be taxed on the full amount of his earnings to include his pension ..he would have approx E8,000 nett. and (2) will i continue to receive disability allowance at the normal reduced rate, or will i get a qualified adult amount ( I understand i cannot get both

Thanks.

In general, all income arising from pensions in Ireland is subject to taxation.

Might not qualify for a full one, details below but get him to request a copy of his prsi record from welfare to checkout how many contributions both paid or credited that he has.

He needs a yearly average of 48 for a full pension of €230.30 but if he only has 40-47 then its only a fiver less, so not too bad.

To answer question 2. You can choose to stay on DA or go on your husbands SP as a QA which ever is more beneficial to you income wise.

Qualified Adult rates for SP

Full Pension. €153.50 u/66
40-47 Contributions: €146 u/66
30-39 Contributions: € 139 u/66

Watch for changes (if any) during the budget coming up.

Hope this helps.
