Hi

A friend of mine was recently made redundant. He is at the minute trying to start up a new small business. Personally, I think the idea is good and I have been able to help him doing some marketing etc.

I am trying to figure out if there is any state agencies that can assist financially or whatever to help start such business's

Thanks!

Is he exporting or manufacturing?
How many new jobs does he hope to create?

He is manufacturing a product which will be sold in the west of ireland.

Ideally if the product takes off, which I believe there is a fair chance he will start to look at taking on staff but initially until he gets a couple of sales it will just be himself.

Thanks

Well if he can export it as well, or at least show export potential, then he could be in luck.
If it's a small business try the county enterprise board for feasibility study grants etc. If it's larger try one of the Enterprise Ireland offshoots (genesis enterprise program, hothouse etc...)

Be warned though
1. The process can be very laborious and involve a lot of form filling and beaurocracy. There is an art to filling in these forms, and certain people are better at playing the game.

2. You could end up 'grant junkies'.

Consider if it would be easier to go it alone.
