I have been on jobseekers benefit part time from last june to last aug (boss cut my hours), maternity ben from aug till end of feb, signed part time till end of march then signed on full time from march(was let go) till now.

My husband left last week, and i went to social welfare to let them know and they said i can claim for my two children now?? dont know what that means but as I can't claim OPFP for another 3 mths i presume they will let me know.

I've been accepted to do a VTOS course beginning shortly so i will be signing off for this, can I claim FIS also whilst on a VTOS course??

Many thanks,

cjandro

FIS is a payment for people who work at least 19 hours per week and are on low wages so it is unlikely that you could claim it at the moment.

You should make sure that the dependant allowance for your children is added to your JB as it may not have been allowed while your husband was living with you.

Also apply for a medical card if you do not have one already.

Is your husband paying maintenance to you & children

I have a form to apply for the medical card and my husband is paying me €50 per week maintenance for the children and he is paying the mortgage in full so working out my half of the mortg would be 375 per month i guess thats added as maintenance even though the house is in his name as is the mortg he always paid the mortg in full and I paid the household bills childcare and refuse oil home ins etc.... I was sure that as I'd be signing off that the allowance from vtos would be counted as paid work for fis purposes. it makes such a difference. thanks for your reply

Are you sure this is a VTOS course, so you are returning to education.
I don't suppose you would be confusing it with Community Employment

Oh yes it is a vtos course in business studies not community employment. Do I have any other options with regards to financial assistance? been looking for a part time job for afternoons or evenings but not having any luck.
