Standard warranty with Ford (2008 model)?

Hi all,

partner bought a 2008 Ford Mondeo in July 2009 from main Ford dealership. Was less than 12 months old as qualified for low tax band. The car has been with us for 7 months.

In that time it has been at the main dealership three times (carpet under passenger side dash removed and loosely stuffed back into place by mechanics, handle for bonnet had been attached upside down and wouldnt work - order parts and return again for work to be carried out. Blow out of a tyre while driving, tracking and balancing off, 2 new tyres required (not so much of a big deal but unexpected). This time there are possible issues with the power steering, very loud whining noise whilst driving and getting worse.

Car is with the main dealership today to diagnose problem and we will have to return a second time to have work done.

I'm sure you can appreciate the frustration we are beginning to feel - after spending close on 20k on a relatively brand new car we have had for just nearly 7 months!

My question: Does anyone know the standard manufacturers warranty for a 2008 Ford Mondeo?
My partner was told last visit that it 'no longer applied' to this car?

Appreciate all advice before I ring the garage later this morning, thanks...

Rang Ford head office - 2 year warranty with unlimited mileage for manufacturer's defects...

AFAIK, none of this is covered under any warranty, even with a brand new car. The dealer may make a contribution as a gesture of good-will, but that is all.

I know Mathepac, it was just yet again another visit to the garage and more time off work / arranging lifts. With the roads though, to be expected at times, no error on the garages part there.

Car seen at 9:30am, we rang at 10:30 while they were inspecting. Meant to return our call with report as to the problem and still no phonecall from them at 4:30 (we have rung twice). Not the treatment you would expect from a main dealership.
Maybe we were just unfortuante when selecting that car!

Update and advice / opinions required please:

Went to collect the car last week after my last post - was told the filter in the power steering needed to be replaced. Part would have to be ordered and return again. No phonecall before we undertook yet another 80 mile round trip.

Dropped the car BACK to the garage Saturday 30th so that they could undertake replacement of this filter yesterday (01/02/10)
No phonecall regarding the progress, requested call for update, none received.

Drove the 80 mile round trip after work. Arrived at garage to be told that they had replaced the filter but that they would have to now replace the entire steering rack.
(Order part, return in 2 or three days to have the work done etc).

I requested a courtesy car and to keep the Mondeo until the part arrives due to the mileage and huge inconvenience of arranging lifts, 80 miles a time etc. Was told this was not possible, 5:45 in the evening.

My partner is taking the car to them this monring, demanding a courtesy car until our own is fixed properly.

I really need unbiased opinons on this. Is it acceptable that a 2008 Ford Mondeo, purchased from a main Ford dealership should have ALL these errors and replacments?
They have be covered to date under warranty but this expires in a few months time.

I would have thought after investing nearly 20k in a car that was less than one year old when we purchased it would only require its service!! We have only had it 6 months.

Opinions please....

Collected courtesy car and asked for a print out of all service history on the car from manufacture to date.

Seems that the car was in the garage for repairs to the front and rear bumper (front, repaired, primed and resprayed) and rear touched up 6 weeks before we bought it.
We were told the car had never had a crash / bang or tip.

Is it possible that this would have caused the issues with the steering rack?
We were told the car had never been damaged and bought based on this assurance.
Do we have any grounds here for replacement / refund?

Will take the car to Auto-engineer for independent report.
All opinions welcome...

Was the work done by the garage you bought the car from? If you were told by the garage that it had never had any damage but it had and they were aware of it then I believe you do have some rights. I don't know exactly the details but I'm sure someone on here will post a link or details soon.

Thanks Stefg (it was getting very lonely in here on my own *w*!)

Work done by same garage yes, where it was first purchased and where we then purchased it. I managed to get a landline number for the original owner that had the repairs done and then traded it it before we bought it. Have tried to ring her to clarify what happened to the car but no answer as of yet...

sounds like a clear case there of misrepresentation assuming you are correct in what you say. I'd be looking for a refund
