I ahve recently been made redundant. What is the situation with my pension?

I have a pension with Standard life - It was worth about 22,000 or was a couple of months ago.

My maternity leave will be starting now shortly.

Do I just hold on to it or can I continue to pay into it or transfer it to a new place of employment hopefully in the new year?

Kind regards

What sort of pension - occupational, personal, PRSA etc.?
If occupational how long were you a member of the scheme (or any other scheme from which funds were transferred in)?
If occupational you should have been apprised of the options which will usually be - refund of personal contributions only net of standard rate income tax if you were a member for under 2 years; leave invested in the occupational scheme; transfer to another occupational scheme (now or later); transfer to a buy out bond (now or later). You will not be able to contribute to the occupational fund once you have left.

If you have been made redundant then surely maternity leave does not apply since for it to apply you need to be (PRSI) insurable employment up to the time of the leave?
