Stamp duty

Hi - I plan on buying a second hand house this year that requires stamp duty be paid on it - unfortunately I stupidly agreed 6 years to be a co applicant on an apartment my sister wanted to buy - I was named on mrtgage and the deeds - but I had nothing to do with the apartment and did not gain financially from it when I came off the deeds and mortgage last year - I have a solicitors letter to prove that - I want to be made exempt from stamp duty on any house that I buy. Has anyone ever been in this situation? I have left messages for Revenue and am waiting for someone to come back me.....

I'm afraid Revenue don't do "born again first time buyers"!

You're not a first time buyer - you lost that status when you bought with your sister.

End of story.

classybird - You really need to be a bit more specific on the thread title to get more information.

Were you definitely on the deeds?
My brother is guarantor on my mortgage but not on deeds so it won't have any implications on him if was to buy else were.
