Stamp duty on a mortgage as opposed a property

I'm about to draw a mortgage after purchasing a new house and thought I had everything researched until last night when someone was telling me there's a stamp duty due on mortgages separate to the property stamp duty for which I'm exempt.
Is this true?

Yes, there is stamp duty on a mortgage of 0.1% after the exempted threshold of €254,000 and it is capped at €630,000.
