Stamp Duty - Joint Ownership

I am currently paying a mortgage on a property I own and live in. I bought the property (first time buyer) 2 years ago so I paid the full stand duty at the time.

My girlfriend bought a property (first time buyer) two months ago and hence did not pay any stamp duty.

If we were to marry and then choose to put both properties in both of our names would:
> I be liable to pay stamp duty on her already purchased property?
> She be liable to pay stamp duty on my already purchased property?

Thanks,
Cathal

dazza is correct, although I am curious to know how he/she knew the answer?

Dr. Moriarty,

That wasn't what I meant. What I mean is whether he/she is qualified in tax to be giving out tax advice, afterall incorrect advice can prove very costly indeed. Just searching google will throw up answers that may be incorrect. Do businesses give away their products for free? In the case of tax information that's a product so if it's good and correct is it given away for free? That's what you need to ask yourself when submitting queries to this site.

My understanding is the purpose of this site is to share information. E.g as you did yourself in this thread. Its really up to readers to use the info. at their discretion. I've got a lot of info from it and find it really useful. Hope that helps.

The difference between me Pm1234 and others on this site is that I know I am qualified in tax whereas I don't know that about others.

Ya, ya, so you keep telling us, start giving a bit of input into the site instead of blowing your own trumpet all the time and maybe we might learn to trust you!!!

Pat,

If being proud of your qualifications and your abilities is blowing your own trumpet then I am quilty. Trust me and give you free advice is it? At least I am honest enough when I am giving free advice to point out that I am qualified to give it unlike others on this site. Can you trust them? It would seem that this site has some begrudgers on it who don't like people saying what they are good at.

You have obviously missed the point of this site, we are all members here and help each other out to the best of our abilities without financial gain. You on the other hand should consider the Golden Pages and start paying for your own advertising!!!

scooterguy, with all due respect, you've only been around here a wet Monday and, notwithstanding the fact that a number of your first posts were deleted on grounds of blatant self-promotion, your contributions to date have consisted of little more than a persistent (and rather monotonous) trumpet solo.

In this particular thread, your only contribution has been to question the reliability of the perfectly correct information provided by another poster (of whom you know nothing) and to accuse others of begrudgery.

It doesn't say a lot about your own motivations here.

Maybe you should have a read of the again?

Why am I being insulted when I am only offering help. Would other people in other trades/professions offer me their services for free? If the answer to that is no then it would seem I am no different to everyone else. I am not going around making personal insults so why am I being targetted?

The answer is yes they do. People from all walks of life post and people have a right to remain anonymous if they wish. Why not give it a chance and you will see for yourself.
