Stage Payments and Solicitor's Role

A query re everyone’s (owner, solicitor, engineer,) role in Stage payments. I’m currently building a house on my own site. It’s a contract build and has gone fine so far. The foundation is complete and the builder is now looking for the first stage payment. The builder contacted the solicitor and the engineer advising them that the stage is complete and requesting the first payment. I called into the solicitor to check that she’d received notification from the builder and she has. My question is does the solicitor also normally contact the engineer at this point to go out and sign off on the stage or should I be doing that myself? I know if the solicitor does it, it will mean another letter (charge!), however if this is normal practice (and perhaps has some legal bearing? Proof that the engineer was contacted?) I’m happy to go with it. Or, perhaps there are no hard and fast rules here. I will discuss this with the solicitor but I’d like to get the lie of the land before I go to her. Thank you.

you should do it yourself- after you have checked that the builder really has finished to this stage. Once the engineer sends in the cert to the bank and your solicitor sends the request to the bank the stage payment will be sent to your solicitor who will then release it on your instructions.
