Person A is a struggling small retailer who operates as a sole trader. His spouse receives Jobseekers' Allowance. Is she allowed to help him out (no wage) or would this affect her entitlement to JA?

In order to qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance, a person must be available for, and be seeking full-time work.

A person working (even for no wage) might fail that rule if investigated by SW.

Thanks for the reply. In this instance the spouse would take any job if offered. She's sending out CVs, registering with agencies and available for interviews

She's only helping out her spouse so that he doesn't have to pay for an outsider as he can't afford it.

Sounds like the spouse is actively willing and looking for work so it's far better to be doing something instead of twiddling your thumbs going mad at home.
