Sponsorship of A Sports Person and Taxes

Hi All

Just looking for some help in relation to a unique situation. I am designing a website for a sports person at the moment. However he wants the website to generate him some money by selling advertising space for products related to his sport. He has no other income and relies on generous donations from local businesses so he can train. He has asked us to manage all this for him. My question is where does sports sponsorhip lie in the tax system. Is he exempt from VAT etc.
