Split a big 6-bed house into 2 small 3-bed houses

I was just wondering , is it possible legally to split a 6-bed house with large garden into 2 small houses , 3 bed each with it's own private garden as part of the large one ?
Would I need a planning permission for that .

How likely this would be accepted ? Is it complicated process ? I think architecturally it is doable , just build couple of walls in each floor will do it .

The same query was made a few months ago and expert advice was absolutely you do.

One couldn't answer questions on how doable it would be without knowing more about the building,location and various conditions attached .
This is the easiest and cheapest time to get hold of an architect -usually they'd charge a few hundred Euros for a couple of hours survey, advice etc.
Or , you could get one to do everything from initial stages to managing the project.
